Boulder U-Fix-It Clinics are educational workshops, not a free repair shop. You should expect to be an active participant in the diagnosis and repair activities.
Be sure to sign up before the event to reserve your one-hour time slot. You can subscribe to the email list to get event notifications.
Before the clinic, do some research:
Is the service manual / parts diagram / wiring schematic available?
Check the manufacturer's web site for the product.
Do an online search to try to find the service information.
Contact the manufacturer and request the service manual.
In Colorado, you have a Right to Repair! [Consumer Right to Repair Digital Electronic Equipment Law]
Are repair guides available? There's a chance that someone else has documented the repair process for the problem you are having with your product.
Google Gemini knows a lot about repairs
FixBot is very helpful, as are the repair guides on ifixit.com
YouTube has many repair videos
If you've diagnosed the problem, can you obtain the replacement part?
The manufacturer might have the parts available for purchase. And, if the product is included in Colorado's Right to Repair law, the manufacturer
is required to make replacement parts, service documentation, and repair tools and software available to you!
Maybe the part is readily available at local hardware stores?
While the Boulder U-Fix-It Clinic has some parts available, participants are encouraged to bring their own replacement parts if possible.
Try to repair it yourself
Maybe you've completed the diagnosis, obtained any needed repair materials or parts, and fixed your item?
Congratuluations! Please share the good news with us. You are welcome to bring another item to the clinic (and repeat this process.)
Or, if you no longer have something to repair, please cancel your signup so that someone else can take your spot.
We require that participants sign up in advance of clinics to reserve their own one-hour timeslot for each clinic. Only one type of timeslot (repair, sewing, jewlry) should be reserved for each particpant.
Complete the check-in form before the clinic. You'll receive an email about one week before the clinic with a link to the check-in form.
This will save you time when you arrive at the clinic.
If you don't complete the check-in form, your signup may be canceled.
No shows are sad. We are expecting you and your broken item to attend the clinic.
If you can't attend, please cancel your signup in advance of the clinic if possible so that someone else may participate.
Repeated no-shows will be dropped from the Boulder U-Fix-It Clinic email list.
Respect your one-hour timeslot. Someone else is waiting for your workspace and repair coach, so please watch the time and leave at the end of your hour.
Complete the check-out form at the end of your assigned time.
Walk-ins can sometimes be accomodated, but no always. (Sometimes there are no-shows, and sometimes people repair their item before the end of their hour.)
Best times to show up for a walk-in are 15 minutes after the assigned hour time slots.
Donations are welcome, but not required. We need to replenish our tools and supplies, so your contribution is most welcome, if you are able.
